  35. Luanne,

How about an old timer returning to photography after a 25 year hiatus?

How about someone using Apple’s Aperture 2 product that tried Lightroom 2 and found a thousand little ways that Lightroom outshines Aperture for RAW workflow?

How about someone that’s used PS for years and finds Lightroom 2 to cover almost 100% of his post-capture processing needs?

How about someone willing to risk ridicule by asking readers if his images constitute “Serious Amateur Photography” or merely “Seriously Amateur Photography”?

    Jeff Lynch

    http://jefflynchdev.wordpress.com

  36. Jeff,
There is no requirement to be a professional to be invited to show your work in the Gallery. What is required is a website where we can view your work. I noticed that you included your blog but not a web portfolio. If you’d like to be considered, please send us your portfolio url.

    thanks,
    Luanne

  37. Oh yeah, I should mention that I’m an amateur photographer as well, Jeff. My goal is to take really great photos using as little gear as possible. I just hate lugging around a bunch of equipment. I’m really seriously amateur! ;-)

    Luanne

  38. Luanne,

I knew you’d love my little play on words. I’ll be “opening” my new portfolio at http://www.jefflynchphoto.com in a few weeks, using Lightroom 2 of course. I’ll post back here when it’s up.

Now if I could just get that $199 that I spent on Aperture back from Apple…

  41. I wanted to share my artwork with the community. I recently won two awards at a world wide competition in Plano, Texas called On My Own Time. Two of my pieces are now on Display in the North Park Gallery in Dallas Texas. One of them is a digital “painting” that I did in Photoshop, the other is one of my “Kscope” designs.

My designs start in Adobe Illustrator and end in Photoshop. I take photos and manipulate them into Kaleidoscope designs. I rarely take a wedge of a photo and put it together. I do these all by hand, flipping images this way and that, isolating objects out of photos until I get just the right look.

I have also taken these a step further and put them into After Effects and animated them. I put a series of them together to cello music.

The link to my kscope designs is:

The Sassy Sea Urchin is an illustration created using Adobe Photoshop CS. It began as a Micron 005 pen ink drawing and turned into a beautiful digital rendering.

  74. I’m currently working on my own portfolio site (version 786), but I wanted to submit my IllustratorWorld link to show some of the illustrations that I have done.

I have been working as a professional graphic designer for about 5 years now and have worked mainly in web design. My passion, however, is illustration and I’m always looking for ways to make my work more readily available.

  75. Eight years ago I started exploring the potential of creating fine art with adobe illustrator, after many years of traditional oil and water color painting. I currently create large-scale abstract pieces exclusively using illustrator as my pencil and palette, and the computer screen as my canvas. Everything is created from scratch – I never do any manipulation of photos or any other type of images. You can view my work on the Hyde Park Gallery website at:

  77. Ms. Luanne Seymour,

I would like to know what problem about my submission on 2/19/09. Did I have any kind of violation? I thought my work with adobe Illustrator is unique, so I just wanted to share with you guys.

    I would try again.

  78. Fumio,
In regards to your question about your gallery submission. No, you did not have any kind of violation.

The Design Center Gallery is currently dormant while we re-evaluate the best way to display the beautiful examples that have been submitted. Once we start adding new content again, I’ll let everyone know by posting to this blog.

Thank you so much for sharing your incredible artwork with us. I encourage those of you reading this to look at many of the amazing submissions on this list.

    Thanks so much!

  115. Just had my children’s book featured and reviewed in this Sunday’s “Sunday Book Review” of the New York Times. The illustrations also have been chosen to take part in the Society of Illustrators Children’s Exhibition in NYC this October. The book, like most of my work, was made using Photoshop, Illustrator and Indesign. Here is a link to the book:
